Amenity creation and biodiversity projects including the formation of Great Crested Newt ponds and Children’s Play Areas.
Barton were engaged on this site to provide a number of earthworks elements on behalf of the two housebuilder clients. The scheme comprised of the creation of three football pitches and a children’s play area to form an amenity for local residents. The play areas were constructed to LEAP and NEAP* standards. Also included in the project and adjacent to the site there was the re-profiling of a country park area and three newt ponds.
The football pitches and the play area involved 25,000 m3 of cut to fill earthworks, drainage and ditch construction. Barton Plant completed this using GPS guidance and laser levelling for it’s D8R Bulldozers.
An area which had received much of the spoil from the housing development was tidied and re-profiled to form a new country park. Included in this was the creation of three newt ponds to encourage the habitation of Smooth and Great Crested Newts found to be inhabiting the local area. Upwards of 30,000 m3 of material were cut to fill.
The whole project involved 46,000 m2 of re-soiling 50% of which was imported screed topsoil.
The name of the estate originates from the name of the farm upon which it has been developed, “Brickhill Farm”, and hints at it’s heritage as a brick making area. The ground is rich in clay.
NB* LEAP = Local Equipped Area for Play primarily for young people aged from 4 to 8 years with at least 5 activities. NEAP = Neighbourhood Equipped Area for Play typically for older children and incorporating at least 8 activities.
